5 Bedroom Decorating Trends for Your Northern Virginia Home

October 22, 2015

Bedrooms can be easy places to forget about when it comes to decorating. With all the time spent in them, there is a lot of potential to create warm and inviting spaces that are also stylish. Here are 5 of our favorite current bedroom decorating trends for your Northern Virginia home.

1. Bold Color

Bright accent colors have been popular for the last few years. Currently, expect to see more rich and vibrant hues when it comes to bedroom color palettes. Colors like luxurious purples, forest greens, and bright yellows are preferred (for many) over white and beige in the bedroom. Our tip: if you’re not sure about committing to such rich wall colors, consider brighter colors for your curtains and accents like rugs and bedding.

2. Minimalist

On the flip side, decorating and coordinating color palettes can be hard work. This year, many people are choosing more stress free bedroom styles that are minimalist and carefree. White walls, along with neutral accessories and maybe just a pop of color, will never go out of style.

3. Rustic

A rustic bedroom is both natural and rugged. Don’t be afraid to mix and match colors and materials. We love the idea of shopping vintage and using repurposed materials (visit flea markets, antique stores, etc.), and pairing them with soft accessories to create a warm and inviting space.

4. Wallpaper

As of 2015, the wallpaper trend is back full force. Wallpaper is a great way to add a little extra detail to your bedroom – it’s distinctive and doesn’t require too much work. For those who are hesitant to get on the wallpaper bandwagon, consider just papering an accent wall.

5. Natural Materials

Natural materials like wood, metals, brick, and stone are all popular decorating trends this year. We love the idea of using repurposed pieces of wood and leaving their natural knots and shapes intact. Also, wooden bed frames and wooden panels on an accent wall provide a natural addition to the bedroom. Rather than relying on overhead lighting, take advantage of any natural light your room has access to. Open and airy windows also help connect indoor space to the outdoors.
