Common Kitchen Problems and How to Solve Them

June 26, 2015
Over the years, we’ve seen common problems in the kitchen come up repeatedly. Whether you have outdated cabinetry, poor “flow”, or need for storage space, it’s our job is to create solutions for these issues. Here’s a list of the most common kitchen problems and how they can be solved with kitchen remodeling.

1. Layout

Problem: You like your kitchen’s layout, but some elements are outdated. You may have outdated cabinetry, appliances, or countertops.

Solution: In this case, your kitchen simply needs a facelift. The majority of the space will stay the same; however, a kitchen remodel can include new countertops, appliances, and cabinets using updated materials.

2. Functionality

Problem: Your kitchen isn’t as functional as you’d like it to be. This is largely due to an inefficient and/or inconvenient layout. For example, you may not have enough space to maneuver from one area to another without bumping into something.

Solution: A kitchen designer can help you design a layout that is easy to work in, with all of your appliances right where they need to be. Kitchen islands, breakfast bars, and other custom touches can fit your needs to create a space you and your family will love.

3. Poor “Flow”

Problem: The kitchen is dark and cramped, and it is cut off from the rest of your home. These cause bad “flow”, which makes your kitchen feel closed off from the rest of the house.

Solution: To address a closed in space, you may opt to have walls removed, which opens up and connects your kitchen to other rooms in your home. This is called an open concept floor plan, which entails an airy and spacious connection between rooms.

4. Storage

Problem: Your kitchen doesn’t have enough storage and room for food prep. This can cause clutter to build up and make it difficult to prepare food conveniently.

Solution: A professionally remodeled kitchen can include enough cabinetry to suit your needs. More counter space can be added in the form of a kitchen island and/or a new kitchen layout. See our post about kitchen islands here.

Making renovations to your kitchen can add much needed functionality, comfort, and style to your home. Luckily, these common problems each have straightforward solutions to make your space even better.
