I Hate Lazy Susan Cabinets

July 07, 2017

I’m a Kitchen Designer. And I hate Lazy Susan cabinets. Yeah, I said it.

I lovingly refer to them as “Spinning Trash Cans” or “The Vortex Of Nothing”. Maybe it’s just my lack of patience or inability to correctly place items on my own. I’m sure there are countless people in the world who LOVE theirs, and don’t understand why I cringe when I have to use mine. My excuse for having one? I didn’t design my own Kitchen 15 years ago. I had NO idea. None.

But what choice do we have? I mean, it’s corner space, right? How many options can there be? The short answer is – more than you think!

Yorktowne Cabinetry, our cabinet company of choice, and its sister company, Medallion Cabinetry have several corner base options – and these are my three favorites:

1. Easy Reach Corner Base Cabinet With Drawers

Sometimes when I show clients this cabinet in our showroom, their eyes light up with glee. That’s when I know I have a fellow “I Hate Lazy Susan’s” person by my side. This cabinet fits perfectly into a standard 36” or 39” wide corner base space and provides full extension deep drawer storage for items like pots and pans, dishes, large bowls, and more. AND you can have two drawers OR three. No more items spinning off into the black hole behind your cabinet.

 2. Base Blind Corner With Full Access Trays

This cabinet boasts two sets of sturdy tray shelves. The front trays pull out and pivot to a 90 degree open position while the back trays move forward into the door opening. These aren’t flimsy trays either – the front ones can hold up to 22 lbs. each, and the back trays can handle up to 17 lbs. each. They have a non-slip maple print surface and metal side railings to keep items from falling off into the abyss.

3. Base Blind Corner With Pull Out Storage

I call this the “Mr. Peanut” cabinet because the two pull out shelves are kind of shaped like a peanut. Each of them pull completely out of the cabinet giving you full access to the cabinet contents. And they’re not wimpy! Each can support up to 55 lbs. of weight! And like the other base corner cabinet above, they have a non-slip maple print surface and metal side railings. There’s also a Quiet Close mechanism included for smooth and silent operation.
