Kitchen Remodeling: Smart Storage Part II

July 14, 2015

We recently looked at some of Yorktowne Cabinetry’s add-on features for kitchen cabinets. Yorktowne Cabinetry is a company we’ve used for many years, and they offer options that help maximize organization, storage, and comfort in your kitchen. Below are some additional options, including the advantages of adding them.

1. Cutting Board Door Rack

Cutting boards are often too large or awkwardly shaped to fit into a regular drawer. Rather than squeezing them into a cabinet somewhere or leaving them out in the open on your countertop, a cutting board door rack gives you an automatic home for them. If you find that you don’t have a lot of counter space and/or cabinet space to begin with, adding something as simple as this door rack is a great idea.

2. Drawer Organizers

There are many ways to organize the drawers in your kitchen. Often times, we end up with a “junk drawer,” where lots of different (usually random) items all end up thrown into one place. By simply adding wood dividers to your drawers, you have built in organization for utensils, cooking tools, dishtowels, and anything else you need to store in the kitchen. If you’re one to just throw things into any drawer (let’s face it, most of us are…), this will help keep you organized. An added benefit is that it will be easier to find things.

3. Wine Cubes

If you’re looking for wine storage, wine cubes provide instant storage in your kitchen. There are lots of ways to customize your wine storage, and this one offers both aesthetic value and functionality. It’s nice to see your wine on display, and it’s also great to have it all on hand in your kitchen. The wine cubes shown are built in next to floor level cabinets, and blend in with the rest of the kitchen design.

4. Sink Base Organizer

Similar to throwing everything into the “junk drawer,” we’ve found that the cabinets under the sink tend to be a catch all for an assortment of random items. Most people keep sponges, dish soap, trash bags, and cleaning products under their sinks. By adding a shelf (or two) on your cabinet doors, you can avoid building up random products under your sink and make them easier to find.
