One of the smaller details of a new Kitchen remodel can actually cause many people a lot of stress and concern. Matching metals. Does my new faucet need to match my cabinet hardware? And what about my stainless appliances? My new light fixtures?

Personally, I don’t think everything has to be “matchy matchy” all the time to look fantastic.  Remember when your shoes had to match your purse? Not anymore! Sometimes mixing metal finishes can add to the eclectic feel of the Kitchen. Does this mean you should go hog wild and just combine a bunch of styles and finishes with abandon? Probably not. But a nice blend of 2 or 3 different colors/styles/finishes can still look congruent and create a nice balance and visual interest.

Here are three examples of a creative mix of metals done well:

The antique black cabinet hardware ties in perfectly with the black iron shelving supports, window trim, dark countertops, and is a lovely contrast on the white cabinets. The stainless steel appliances and brushed nickel faucet add some softness to the dramatic look.

This Kitchen mixes cabinet finishes, door styles, AND metals. The brass light fixture plays well with the more traditional darker wall cabinets with their own brass hardware. The white and light blue cabinets share the same style and finish of black antique hardware. The faucet, pot filler and appliances a nice simple stainless steel/brushed nickel elements. There’s a lot going on here – but I think it works and looks fantastic!
